What Matters: On-chain forex can mean a currency-linked derivative, a swap between currency tokens or institutional settlement infrastructure. These are different products. Compare the claim you hold, collateral location, total costs and exit conditions before comparing venues. Self-custody does not eliminate protocol or counterparty risk, and a high leverage limit is not evidence of execution quality.
Three products that should not be confused
A currency derivative gives price exposure under a contract. It does not necessarily deliver the underlying currency. A swap between currency-linked tokens changes the assets held, but adds issuer, redemption and liquidity questions. Institutional FX settlement infrastructure is a different service again, with its own participation requirements. A shared blockchain label does not make these interchangeable.
What current gTrade documentation supports
Gains’ collateral documentation lists multiple collateral assets, including USDC and DAI on Arbitrum and Polygon. Availability differs by deployment. It describes synthetic price exposure, rather than purchase of the underlying asset. USDC is therefore supported, but “DAI has been replaced everywhere” would also be inaccurate.
The fee documentation separates opening and closing fees, spread, price impact and holding costs. At this review it lists major-forex opening and closing fees of 0.012% each and fixed spread of 0.005% per side. These are documented components, not an all-in execution quote. Dynamic impact, holding charges and the actual position parameters still matter.

DN FX venue evidence worksheet
| Check | Evidence to record |
|---|---|
| Instrument | Exact pair and contract; derivative exposure or deliverable currency; settlement asset. |
| Access | Applicable entity, terms, country restrictions and account requirements. Do not bypass restrictions. |
| Collateral | Token and network; where it goes during a trade; withdrawal conditions and administrative controls. |
| Complete cost | Entry and exit fees, spread, impact, borrowing or funding, network and conversion costs. |
| Price and hours | Oracle or index, update cadence, market closures, stale-price handling and gap treatment. |
| Exit | Order types, available liquidity, liquidation trigger, stop execution conditions and outage procedures. |
| Evidence quality | Observation time, quoted size and source. Separate documentation from measured execution. |
| Operational status | Confirm the specific product is available to eligible users before including it in a shortlist. |
Measure cost against both exposure and collateral
Fictional example: 200 units of collateral supporting 2,000 units of exposure creates a 10:1 ratio. An all-in assumed cost of 0.20% of exposure is 4 units, or 2% of the initial collateral. A 1% adverse underlying move is approximately 20 units before costs under a simple linear model. This is not a liquidation calculation: actual fees, collateral valuation and protocol rules can change the result.
A stop order is not a guaranteed fill at the chosen price. A market closure, gap, stale oracle, network disruption or insufficient liquidity can prevent the intended exit. A wallet signature also does not mean posted collateral remains freely spendable in that wallet.
What changed
Withdrawn: unsupported “best” venue claims, the unvalidated venue score, recommendations based on maximum leverage, the active Ostium recommendation, blanket no-approval claims, and the assertion that self-custody removes counterparty risk. The earlier Hyperliquid, GMX, Kraken and BingX comparisons have not been revalidated as a current FX shortlist. No operational conclusion about those services is inferred from their removal.
Institutional settlement claims and volume statistics were removed where this review did not establish current product scope and a comparable measurement basis. For related custody questions, see the DN CeDeFi control map.
Change log, 15 October 2026: replaced promotional rankings with a sourced exposure-and-cost framework.
