Crypto Swap Spread Tracker: Which Instant Swap Platform Is Cheapest?

Best Instant Crypto Swap Platforms: Fees and Spread Transparency Compared.

The Hidden Cost of Instant Swaps: A DN Spread Audit Across Six Platforms

Decentralised News, 2026

Every instant swap service advertises the same thing: no account, no order book, no fee line item. Type in what you have, type in what you want, send the crypto, receive the crypto. It feels free. It almost never is.

The cost of an instant swap does not disappear because it is not itemized. It moves. Instead of a transparent trading fee, it gets folded into the exchange rate itself, the number quietly built into the “you will receive” figure before you ever click confirm. That is not necessarily dishonest. It is a legitimate business model. But it makes instant swap services close to impossible to compare on price using the information they actually publish, which is exactly why they rarely get compared at all.

DN modeled a single $500 crypto-to-crypto swap through six platforms, using each platform’s own disclosed fee structure, published rate documentation, and technical fee schedules where available, to estimate what that $500 actually costs to move. The result is not a live price quote (rates shift by the minute and vary by pair and network congestion), it is a spread audit: a structural comparison of how much of your money is not swap, it is markup.

Methodology, and its limits

This is a modeled comparison, not a captured one. Three of the six platforms in this audit (ChangeNOW, SideShift, Switchere) do not publish a single service-fee percentage; the cost is embedded in the rate and varies by pair, liquidity, and market conditions. Where a platform publishes a defined range, DN used that range. Where a platform discloses no percentage at all, that is reported as a finding in itself, not papered over with a guessed number.

The other three platforms (Changelly, deBridge, Binance Convert) publish an explicit fee structure, which allowed for a precise dollar figure on the same $500 trade.

Every figure below should be read as a modeled range based on each platform’s own published disclosures as of mid-2026, not a snapshot of today’s live rate. The point of the audit is the structural gap between the tightest and widest models, not a claim that any individual swap will cost exactly this much today.

The six platforms, ranked tightest to widest

  1. deBridge (DLN), estimated $0.40 to $0.75 on a $500 swap (0.08% to 0.15%) deBridge is the outlier in this audit because it is not a custodial swap aggregator, it is an on-chain, intent-based liquidity network with a published, code-level fee structure: a small flat fee paid to validators, a 4 basis point protocol fee, and roughly a 4 basis point solver margin. That level of disclosure down to the smart contract is rare in this category, and it shows up directly in the price. The tradeoff is reach: deBridge covers 26-plus chains for on-chain assets, but it is not the tool for converting to fiat or moving into an asset a solver has no inventory for.
  2. Binance Convert, estimated $0.50 to $1.50 (0.10% to 0.30%) The CEX benchmark in this audit. Binance charges zero explicit trading fee on Convert, recovering its margin entirely through the quoted spread, which independent fee breakdowns place between roughly 0.05% and 0.5% depending on the pair, typically 0.1% to 0.3% for liquid majors. It sits near the top of this ranking for a simple reason: Binance’s own order book depth lets it quote a tighter spread than a service that has to source liquidity from partners. The catch is the one every instant-swap user is trying to avoid: an account and KYC.
  3. Changelly, floating rate, $1.25 flat (0.25%) The most transparent number in the audit. Changelly discloses a flat 0.25% service fee on floating-rate crypto-to-crypto swaps, on top of a separately shown network fee. Choosing the fixed-rate option instead, which locks your quote for around 15 minutes, adds a volatility premium that independent testing puts at roughly 0.5% to 1% above the floating rate, moving the effective cost to about $3.75 to $6.25 on the same $500. Selling directly to fiat carries a separately disclosed minimum fee of 3.95%, a different product with a different cost structure entirely.
  4. ChangeNOW, estimated $2.50 to $12.50 (0.5% to 2.5%) ChangeNOW does not publish a fee percentage. Its own documentation and third-party fee audits describe a “service fee” embedded in the rate that independent 2026 cost analyses place between roughly 0.5% and 2.5% for standard pairs, and as high as 4% for thinner, less liquid ones. The floating rate tends to sit at the tighter end of that range for major assets; the fixed rate, which locks the quote for 20 minutes, sits wider. ChangeNOW’s real advantage is breadth, over 1,500 assets across 110-plus chains, which matters more for a long-tail altcoin swap than for moving between BTC and ETH, where the spread premium is hardest to justify.
  5. Switchere, crypto-to-crypto, estimated $4.45 to $17.00 (0.89% to 3.4%) Switchere is structurally a different product than the other five: it is a card-and-bank fiat gateway that also offers crypto-to-crypto conversion, and it prices accordingly. For a straight crypto-to-crypto swap, the disclosed service fee alone ranges from 0.89% to 3.4%, already wider than every no-KYC competitor in this audit. That is before touching the platform’s actual core business.
  6. Switchere, card or bank purchase, modeled at $35.32 (approximately 7.1%) This is where the audit produces its widest gap. Buying crypto directly with a card or bank transfer on Switchere layers a disclosed 3.6% processing fee plus roughly $0.32 flat, on top of a separate 3.4% service fee. On a $500 purchase that models out to just over $35, more than 45 times the cost of the same $500 moved through deBridge. Switchere is not a bad platform for what it actually is, a compliant, no-crypto-required fiat on-ramp for a first-time buyer with a debit card, but pricing it against a peer-to-peer crypto swap service is comparing two different products that happen to share a URL pattern.

Unrankable on price: SideShift SideShift discloses no fee percentage anywhere in its public documentation. Its own help center states plainly that “the fees are built into the exchange rates,” with no published breakdown by pair, no minimum, no maximum. That is not automatically a red flag. SideShift requires no sign-up, has processed over $3 billion in volume since 2019, and directs 25% of protocol revenue back to its own token stakers, which is a meaningfully transparent business model at the protocol level even while the per-swap consumer price stays opaque. But it means SideShift cannot be placed on this ranking by number, only by category: somewhere in the same range as ChangeNOW, verified by nothing but the rate shown at the moment of the swap.

What the six-platform gap actually means

Collapse the ranking into a single sentence and the finding is this: on the same $500 trade, the difference between the tightest and widest option in this audit is roughly $35, or about 90 times the cost, and none of that difference is disclosed as a line-item fee anywhere in the user interface. It is entirely inside the rate.

That gap is not evidence that instant swaps are a scam. It is evidence that “instant swap” describes at least three different products wearing the same interface: an on-chain liquidity protocol with code-level fee disclosure (deBridge), a KYC-free aggregator pricing off liquidity partners with a wide, largely undisclosed spread (ChangeNOW, SideShift), and a fiat-focused conversion shop pricing for convenience and compliance overhead (Switchere). Comparing them on convenience alone, which is how most swap comparisons on the web are written, hides a cost difference that compounds fast for anyone swapping regularly rather than once.

The DN Swap Slippage & Spread Tracker

To make this comparison usable beyond a single $500 example, DN built the Swap Slippage & Spread Tracker below. Enter a trade amount and a platform, and the tool applies each platform’s own disclosed or modeled fee range to estimate the real cost of that specific swap, with a plain-language verdict on how transparent that platform actually is about the number.

AI Summary: The DN Swap Slippage & Spread Tracker estimates the real cost of an instant crypto swap across six platforms (ChangeNOW, Changelly, SideShift, Switchere, deBridge, Binance Convert) using each platform's own disclosed or modeled fee ranges. On a $500 swap, modeled cost ranges from roughly $0.40 on the tightest platform to over $35 on the widest, a gap that never appears as a line-item fee, only inside the quoted rate.

Methodology: figures are modeled from each platform's own published fee documentation or independently verified fee-audit ranges as of mid-2026, applied to the amount entered above. This is a structural comparison, not a live quote; actual rates vary by trading pair, liquidity, and market conditions at the moment of a real swap. SideShift discloses no fee percentage and is therefore not assigned a numeric estimate.

Frequently asked questions

Why don't instant swap platforms show a clear fee percentage?

Most instant swap services source liquidity from multiple partners and price the trade as a single quoted rate rather than a base price plus a separate fee line. The cost is real, it is just embedded rather than itemized.

Is a wider spread always a bad sign?

Not automatically. A wider spread can reflect thinner liquidity on an obscure pair, higher compliance cost, or genuine risk being priced in. The concern is the absence of disclosure that would let a user judge whether the width is justified.

Is deBridge really the cheapest option in every case?

Only for supported on-chain assets and chains. deBridge does not offer fiat on-ramps or off-ramps, and its tight spread depends on solvers being willing to fill an order for a given pair.

Why is SideShift left out of the numeric ranking?

Because it does not publish a fee percentage anywhere in its documentation. This tool assigns a number only where a platform discloses or clearly documents one.

Does using a fixed rate always cost more than a floating rate?

Generally yes, on the platforms in this audit. A fixed rate protects against price movement during the transaction window by building in a volatility premium, typically an extra 0.5% to 1%.

Is Switchere overpriced?

Not for what it actually is. Switchere's core product is a compliant, card-and-bank fiat gateway, a different category from a peer-to-peer crypto swap aggregator, and its fiat purchase fees are priced for that regulatory overhead.

How often is this data updated?

Fee structures on instant swap platforms change without notice. DN reviews and updates the disclosed figures behind this tool on a recurring basis.

What is the single biggest mistake people make with instant swaps?

Treating "no visible fee" as "no fee." The only way to know the real cost of an instant swap is to compare the amount received against the live market rate at the moment of the trade.

Where to swap, by use case

Cheapest for on-chain crypto-to-crypto moves, if your asset is supported: deBridge’s DLN offers the tightest disclosed spread in this audit for cross-chain, on-chain swaps. Try deBridge.

Cheapest with an account, largest liquidity: Binance Convert consistently prices near the tight end of this audit, backed by the deepest order book of any platform tested. Open a Binance account.

Best disclosed fee, no account required: Changelly’s flat, published 0.25% floating-rate fee is the most transparent number among the no-KYC options. Swap on Changelly.

Broadest asset coverage for long-tail altcoins: ChangeNOW’s 1,500-plus supported assets make it the practical choice when a coin is not listed on tighter-spread alternatives. Swap on ChangeNOW.

No sign-up, direct to wallet: SideShift trades disclosed pricing for zero account friction and direct wallet-to-wallet settlement. Try SideShift.

First-time buyer with a card, not a crypto-to-crypto swap: Switchere fills a real gap for card and bank purchases, but budget for its disclosed processing and service fees rather than expecting swap-service pricing. Buy on Switchere.
